Description
A 5 year old Edradour, a distillery bottling, from 2020, cask 18, at 60.1%, 315 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt from the tiny farm distillery at Pitlochry, long called Scotland's smallest. Its water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs in the hills above the distillery.
Drawn off the tiny stills and cooled in worm tubs for an oily make, building the creamy Edradour style. Finished in a Pedro Ximenez cask, the wood building over the oily, full bodied spirit. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit rich, oily and nutty. A small distillery and a hands on approach shape every cask by hand. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way. The tiny stills and worm tubs give an oily spirit that takes the cask well.
At a hearty 60.1% it carries real weight. Baked apple, marzipan and a creamy malt, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. It is rich and oily, the full bodied spirit shining through. Dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oak see out a long finish. This is a rich, oily Highland single malt.
