Description
Edradour from the distillery, a 10 year old, from 2002, cask 460, at 57.3%, 989 bottles in all. Edradour is a small, traditional Highland single malt, owned by Signatory since 2002. It is one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland, long run by just two or three hands.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in tiny copper stills and worm tubs, for a full, oily make of dried fruit and chocolate. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working slowly into the rich malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and dried fruit. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses. It was founded in 1825, growing out of an old farmers' cooperative in the glen above Pitlochry.
At a hearty 57.3% it carries real weight. A full, fruity sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The texture is oily and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. A long, nutty finish carries dried fruit and a soft spice. This is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Pitlochry.
