Description
This official Edradour, a 9 year old, from 2009, cask 81 + 171, at 55.9%, 1021 bottles in all. Edradour is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Balnauld, distilled since 1825. Under Signatory the range has grown to a wide run of sherry and wine cask bottlings.
The spirit was made in the smallest of stills and condensed in worm tubs, building the creamy Edradour style. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the rich Edradour make. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit rich, oily and nutty. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and chocolate deepening over the oily core. The tiny stills and worm tubs give an oily spirit that takes the cask well. It was founded in 1825, growing out of an old farmers' cooperative in the glen above Pitlochry.
At 55.9%, undiluted, it is deep and concentrated. A full, fruity sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Fig, nut and a creamy malt fill the middle. A rich finish ends on dried fruit and a soft oak. This is the oily, rich malt of tiny Edradour.
