Description
An official release of Edradour, an 18 year old, from 1998, cask 2026, at 56.2%, 692 bottles in all. Edradour is a creamy, sherried Highland single malt from one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. It was bought in 2002 by Andrew Symington of the independent bottler Signatory Vintage.
It was distilled slowly in the old farm stillhouse on Ben Vrackie water, building the creamy Edradour style. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the rich Edradour make. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the nutty, oily malt deepening. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore. It was founded in 1825, growing out of an old farmers' cooperative in the glen above Pitlochry. Active wood frames the rich fruit without overwhelming the oily Highland spirit. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and chocolate deepening over the oily core.
At 56.2%, undiluted, it is deep and concentrated. Chocolate, dried fruit and a waxy oil, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oil. The finish is long, oily and gently spiced. This is a creamy, nutty Highland single malt.
