Description
This official Edradour, an 8 year old, from 2011, cask 62, at 60.6%, 421 bottles in all. Edradour is a full bodied, oily Highland malt made on Ben Vrackie water at Pitlochry. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom.
The spirit was distilled slowly in the old farm stillhouse on Ben Vrackie water, giving the full bodied, creamy Highland spirit. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the rich spirit. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit rich, oily and nutty. A small distillery and a hands on approach shape every cask by hand. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. A 2018 expansion added a second still house, the production still small and traditional. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way.
At a hearty 60.6% it carries real weight. A rich, oily orchard fruit and almond, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft chocolate and a nutty oil sit behind the cask. Dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oak see out a long finish. This is the little gem of the Highlands at Pitlochry.
