Edradour from the distillery, a 14 year old, from 2003, cask 149, at 58.7%, 193 bottles in all. Edradour is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Balnauld, distilled since 1825. For years its sign read Scotland's smallest distillery; it now calls itself Scotland's little gem.

The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in tiny copper stills and worm tubs, for the rich, oily make Edradour is known for. Finished in a Port cask, the wood building over the oily, full bodied spirit. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, oily spirit growing creamier. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way. Under Signatory the range has grown to a wide run of sherry and wine cask bottlings. Signatory's wide cask range gives the small distillery an unusual variety of finishes.

At a hearty 58.7% it carries real weight. A rich, nutty sweetness, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. The mouthfeel is thick and oily, the fruit on a creamy body. Dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oak see out a long finish. This is a Highland single malt of real character.
