Description
An official release of Edradour, an 11 year old, from 2006, cask 320 + 328, at 59.8%, 530 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt from Perthshire, traditional and tiny, now Scotland's little gem. It keeps the old ways, with an open cast iron mash tun, Oregon pine washbacks and worm tub condensers.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in tiny copper stills and worm tubs, the worm tubs lending a weighty, oily character. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the oily, full bodied spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and dried fruit. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the nutty richness growing with time. Ben Vrackie water and a long ferment give the rich Edradour make. For years its sign read Scotland's smallest distillery; it now calls itself Scotland's little gem.
At 59.8%, undiluted, it is deep and concentrated. Dried fruit, nut and a soft chocolate, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Fig, nut and a creamy malt fill the middle. The finish is rounded, fruity and gently spiced. This is a rich, oily Highland single malt.
