Description
An official release of Edradour, a 12 year old, from 2003, at 55.6%, 1979 bottles in all. Edradour is a small batch Highland malt, owned by the independent bottler Signatory Vintage. Its water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs in the hills above the distillery.
It was made in the smallest of stills and condensed in worm tubs, building the creamy Edradour style. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the rich, oily character to the fore. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the nutty chocolate deepening. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the nutty richness growing with time. Ben Vrackie water and a long ferment give the rich Edradour make. It is one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland, long run by just two or three hands. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore.
At cask strength 55.6% it is big and oily. A full, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Fig, nut and a creamy malt fill the middle. The finish is long, oily and gently spiced. This is a creamy, nutty Highland single malt.
