A 10 year old Edradour from the distillery, at 60.2%. A rich, oily Highland fruit of dried fruit and almond. It uses an open mash tun, Oregon pine washbacks and worm tub condensers. Its tiny stills and worm tubs give a rich, oily, full bodied spirit. Long called Scotland’s smallest distillery, now Scotland’s little gem. This is the little gem of the Highlands at Pitlochry.

Description

A 10 year old Edradour, a distillery bottling, from 2006, at 60.2%, 1772 bottles in all. Edradour is a small batch Highland malt, owned by the independent bottler Signatory Vintage. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom.

It was drawn off the tiny stills and cooled in worm tubs for an oily make, for a full, oily make of dried fruit and chocolate. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the oily malt, the body fuller and creamier. Ben Vrackie water and a long ferment give the rich Edradour make. Maturation in the dunnage warehouses at Pitlochry is slow and steady. The distillery sits in a pocket glen at Balnauld, in the hills above Pitlochry in Perthshire. It was founded in 1825, growing out of an old farmers' cooperative in the glen above Pitlochry.

Bottled at a cask strength 60.2%, it is rich. Dried fruit, nut and a soft chocolate, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dried fruit and a polished oak give it depth. Dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oak see out a long finish. This is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Pitlochry.
