Description
An official release of Edradour, a 12 year old, from 2008, cask 34, at 56.7%, 704 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt distilled in a pocket glen near Pitlochry since 1825. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom.
Worked through Oregon pine washbacks and tiny stills for a rich, oily spirit, for the rich, oily make Edradour is known for. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the rich Edradour make. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the oily malt, the body fuller and creamier. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the nutty richness growing with time. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses. Its tiny copper stills and worm tubs give a rich, oily, full bodied spirit. The distillery sits in a pocket glen at Balnauld, in the hills above Pitlochry in Perthshire.
At its natural 56.7% it is rich and full bodied. A rich, nutty sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oil. The finish is long, oily and gently spiced. This is a Highland single malt of real character.
