Description
A 14 year old Edradour, a distillery bottling, from 2008, cask 91, at 60%, 490 bottles in all. Edradour is a full bodied, oily Highland malt made on Ben Vrackie water at Pitlochry. Its tiny copper stills and worm tubs give a rich, oily, full bodied spirit.
Run through the small stills with their boil ball purifiers, building the creamy Edradour style. Finished in a Rum cask, the wood building over the oily, full bodied spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the nutty chocolate deepening. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore. A small distillery and a hands on approach shape every cask by hand. It was founded in 1825, growing out of an old farmers' cooperative in the glen above Pitlochry. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses.
At a natural 60% it is full and oily. A full, fruity sweetness, with a soft brown sugar and a tropical fruit from the cask. Beneath it run dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oil. The finish is long, oily and gently spiced. This is the oily, rich malt of tiny Edradour.
