Description
Edradour Glenforres 12 Years Old is a blended malt Scotch from Edradour, the tiny farm distillery at Pitlochry. It draws on Edradour's rich, oily malt for a full bodied character. It keeps the old ways, with an open cast iron mash tun, Oregon pine washbacks and worm tub condensers.
Edradour's full bodied malt rounds the blend with an oily weight. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the nutty richness growing with time. Its water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs in the hills above the distillery. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom. A 2018 expansion added a second still house, the production still small and traditional. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses.
Reduced to 43%, it is mellow. Dried fruit, chocolate and a nutty oil run through it, rich and full. Beneath it run dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oil. The close is oily and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. A characterful blended malt Scotch.
