An official Edradour, a 12 year old, 2012, at 46%. A rich, oily fruit over a creamy body. Water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs above the distillery. Owned since 2002 by the independent bottler Signatory Vintage. It uses an open mash tun, Oregon pine washbacks and worm tub condensers. This is the oily, rich malt of tiny Edradour.

Description

Edradour from the distillery, a 12 year old, from 2012, cask 2, at 46%, 380 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt distilled in a pocket glen near Pitlochry since 1825. It was founded in 1825, growing out of an old farmers' cooperative in the glen above Pitlochry.

Drawn off the tiny stills and cooled in worm tubs for an oily make, building the creamy Edradour style. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla and a touch of coconut from the lactones. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, oily spirit growing creamier. Ben Vrackie water and a long ferment give the rich Edradour make. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. The tiny stills and worm tubs give an oily spirit that takes the cask well. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way.

Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. Baked apple, marzipan and a creamy malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is oily and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. Dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oak see out a long finish. This is Edradour, one of Scotland's smallest distilleries.
