Edradour 9 Years Old 2011 Cask #30 (van Wees)

A 9 year old Edradour from the Dutch bottler van Wees, distilled in 2011, from cask 30, bottled at 57.1%, one of 651 bottles. Edradour is a creamy, sherried Highland single malt from one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. It is one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland, long run by just two or three hands.

It was distilled from unpeated malt in tiny copper stills and worm tubs, building the creamy Edradour style. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the oily, full bodied spirit. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) over the creamy make. Ben Vrackie water and a long ferment give the rich Edradour make. Its tiny copper stills and worm tubs give a rich, oily, full bodied spirit. Its water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs in the hills above the distillery.

At a hearty 57.1% it carries real weight. A rich, oily orchard fruit and almond, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The texture is oily and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. A long, nutty finish carries dried fruit and a soft spice. This is the oily, rich malt of tiny Edradour.
