Description
An Edradour of a 9 year old chosen by the Dutch bottler van Wees, distilled in 2010, from cask 417, bottled at 56.2%, one of 655 bottles. Edradour is a full bodied, oily Highland malt made on Ben Vrackie water at Pitlochry. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom.
Drawn off the tiny stills and cooled in worm tubs for an oily make, giving the full bodied, creamy Highland spirit. An Oloroso cask held it, shaping the oily spirit over the years. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) over the creamy make. Active wood frames the rich fruit without overwhelming the oily Highland spirit. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way. Long ageing turns the rich make towards dried fruit, fig and a soft spice. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore.
At 56.2%, undiluted, it is deep and concentrated. Dried fruit, nut and a soft chocolate, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The texture is oily and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. Dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oak see out a long finish. This is the oily, rich malt of tiny Edradour.
