Description
This Edradour was bottled by the Dutch bottler van Wees, an 8 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask 118, bottled at 60.4%, one of 696 bottles. Edradour is a rich, oily Highland single malt made in the old farm buildings above Pitlochry. Its water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs in the hills above the distillery.
It was made in the smallest of stills and condensed in worm tubs, giving the full bodied, creamy Highland spirit. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working slowly into the rich malt. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit rich, oily and nutty. Active wood frames the rich fruit without overwhelming the oily Highland spirit. The distillery sits in a pocket glen at Balnauld, in the hills above Pitlochry in Perthshire. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom.
At a hearty 60.4% it carries real weight. Baked apple, marzipan and a creamy malt, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Fig, nut and a creamy malt fill the middle. A long, nutty finish carries dried fruit and a soft spice. This is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Pitlochry.
