Description
An official release of Edradour, an 11 year old, from 2012, cask 1002, at 48.2%. Edradour is a small, traditional Highland single malt, owned by Signatory since 2002. It is one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland, long run by just two or three hands.
Drawn off the tiny stills and cooled in worm tubs for an oily make, building the creamy Edradour style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the rich spirit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the oily malt, the body fuller and creamier. Ben Vrackie water and a long ferment give the rich Edradour make. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask. It was founded in 1825, growing out of an old farmers' cooperative in the glen above Pitlochry.
At 48.2%, undiluted, it is deep and concentrated. Baked apple, marzipan and a creamy malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dried fruit and a polished oak give it depth. The close is oily and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. This is the little gem of the Highlands at Pitlochry.
