Edradour 1993 Vintage Cask #301

Edradour from the distillery, an 18 year old, from 1993, cask 301, at 59%, 599 bottles in all. Edradour is a Highland single malt from the tiny farm distillery at Pitlochry, long called Scotland's smallest. Its tiny copper stills and worm tubs give a rich, oily, full bodied spirit.

Run through the small stills with their boil ball purifiers, giving the full bodied, creamy Highland spirit. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working slowly into the rich malt. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the nutty, oily malt deepening. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. A 2018 expansion added a second still house, the production still small and traditional. Maturation in the dunnage warehouses at Pitlochry is slow and steady. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and chocolate deepening over the oily core.

At a hearty 59% it carries real weight. Chocolate, dried fruit and a waxy oil, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A dried fruit and a polished oak give it depth. A long, nutty finish carries dried fruit and a soft spice. This is a rich, oily Highland single malt.
