Description
A 12 year old Edradour, a distillery bottling, cask Batch 6, at 59.5%. Edradour is a full bodied, oily Highland malt made on Ben Vrackie water at Pitlochry. It was founded in 1825, growing out of an old farmers' cooperative in the glen above Pitlochry.
The spirit was distilled slowly in the old farm stillhouse on Ben Vrackie water, for the rich, oily make Edradour is known for. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working slowly into the rich malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and dried fruit. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and chocolate deepening over the oily core. It keeps the old ways, with an open cast iron mash tun, Oregon pine washbacks and worm tub condensers. Ben Vrackie water and a long ferment give the rich Edradour make. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses.
At a natural 59.5% it is full and oily. A full, fruity sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Fig, nut and a creamy malt fill the middle. A rich finish ends on dried fruit and a soft oak. This is a creamy, nutty Highland single malt.
