Description
From the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, an 11 year old Edradour, distilled in 2002, from cask 1269, bottled at 46%, one of 899 bottles. Edradour is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Balnauld, distilled since 1825. It is one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland, long run by just two or three hands.
The spirit was made in the smallest of stills and condensed in worm tubs, for a full, oily make of dried fruit and chocolate. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working slowly into the rich malt. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, oily spirit growing creamier. Active wood frames the rich fruit without overwhelming the oily Highland spirit. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the nutty richness growing with time. A 2018 expansion added a second still house, the production still small and traditional.
At an approachable 46% it is soft and oily. Dried fruit, nut and a soft chocolate, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is rich and oily, the full bodied spirit shining through. A rich finish ends on dried fruit and a soft oak. This is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Pitlochry.
