Description
Edradour from the distillery, a 10 year old, at 40%. Edradour is a creamy, sherried Highland single malt from one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. For years its sign read Scotland's smallest distillery; it now calls itself Scotland's little gem.
It was run through the small stills with their boil ball purifiers, for a full, oily make of dried fruit and chocolate. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the rich Edradour make. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, oily spirit growing creamier. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask. Active wood frames the rich fruit without overwhelming the oily Highland spirit. The tiny stills and worm tubs give an oily spirit that takes the cask well. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore.
At 40% it is smooth and rich. A rich, oily orchard fruit and almond, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The texture is oily and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The close is oily and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. This is the little gem of the Highlands at Pitlochry.
