Description
Edradour from the distillery, a 10 year old, at 46%. Edradour is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Balnauld, distilled since 1825. A rare Morton refrigerator still cools the wort, one of the last in use in Scotland.
Worked through Oregon pine washbacks and tiny stills for a rich, oily spirit, for a full, oily make of dried fruit and chocolate. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the rich Edradour make. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the nutty chocolate deepening. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way. It keeps the old ways, with an open cast iron mash tun, Oregon pine washbacks and worm tub condensers. Active wood frames the rich fruit without overwhelming the oily Highland spirit. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses.
At an approachable 46% it is soft and oily. Chocolate, dried fruit and a waxy oil, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is rich and oily, the full bodied spirit shining through. The finish is long, oily and gently spiced. This is a rich, oily Highland single malt.
