Description
A 10 year old Edradour from the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, distilled in 2015, from cask 116, bottled at 46%, one of 798 bottles. Edradour is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Balnauld, distilled since 1825. A rare Morton refrigerator still cools the wort, one of the last in use in Scotland.
It was distilled slowly in the old farm stillhouse on Ben Vrackie water, giving the full bodied, creamy Highland spirit. An Oloroso cask held it, shaping the oily spirit over the years. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the oily malt, the body fuller and creamier. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom. For years its sign read Scotland's smallest distillery; it now calls itself Scotland's little gem. Its water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs in the hills above the distillery.
At 46% it is rich, nutty and full. Dried fruit, nut and a soft chocolate, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A dried fruit and a polished oak give it depth. The close is oily and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. This is Edradour's full bodied, sherried Highland style.
