Description
A 10 year old Edradour from the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, distilled in 2014, from cask 44 + 63 + 153 + 154, bottled at 46%. Edradour is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Balnauld, distilled since 1825. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom.
Run through the small stills with their boil ball purifiers, for a full, oily make of dried fruit and chocolate. An Oloroso cask held it, shaping the oily spirit over the years. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the oily malt, the body fuller and creamier. Long ageing turns the rich make towards dried fruit, fig and a soft spice. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way. Maturation in the dunnage warehouses at Pitlochry is slow and steady. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and chocolate deepening over the oily core.
At 46% it is creamy and full. Dried fruit, chocolate and a nutty oil, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is rich and oily, the full bodied spirit shining through. Dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oak see out a long finish. This is a Highland single malt of real character.
