Description
This Edradour was bottled by the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, a 10 year old, distilled in 2014, from cask 262, 264, 266, bottled at 46%, one of 668 bottles. Edradour is a Highland single malt distilled in a pocket glen near Pitlochry since 1825. A 2018 expansion added a second still house, the production still small and traditional.
It was worked through Oregon pine washbacks and tiny stills for a rich, oily spirit, building the creamy Edradour style. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the oily, full bodied spirit. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the oily malt, the body fuller and creamier. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask. The full bodied spirit shows the cask clearly, the sherry and oak to the fore. For years its sign read Scotland's smallest distillery; it now calls itself Scotland's little gem.
At 46% it is creamy and full. Dried fruit, nut and a soft chocolate, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A dried fruit and a polished oak give it depth. The finish runs long, nutty and warming. This is a Highland single malt of real character.
