Description
The Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage bottled this Edradour, a 10 year old, distilled in 2010, from cask 117, bottled at 46%. Edradour is a rich, oily Highland single malt made in the old farm buildings above Pitlochry. It was founded in 1825, growing out of an old farmers' cooperative in the glen above Pitlochry.
Distilled from unpeated malt in tiny copper stills and worm tubs, building the creamy Edradour style. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the rich Edradour make. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, oily spirit growing creamier. Refill oak lets the rich, oily Edradour character lead the way. Maturation in the dunnage warehouses at Pitlochry is slow and steady. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom. It is one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland, long run by just two or three hands.
At 46% it is rich, nutty and full. Dried fruit, nut and a soft chocolate, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. A long, nutty finish carries dried fruit and a soft spice. This is a Highland single malt of real character.
