Description
A 10 year old Edradour from the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, distilled in 2009, from cask 51, bottled at 46%. Edradour is a rich Highland malt from the pocket glen at Balnauld, distilled since 1825. Its water comes from the Ben Vrackie springs in the hills above the distillery.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in tiny copper stills and worm tubs, for the rich, oily make Edradour is known for. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the rich, oily character to the fore. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the nutty chocolate deepening. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses. It once supplied blends such as House of Lords and King's Ransom. Ben Vrackie water and a long ferment give the rich Edradour make. The tiny stills and worm tubs give an oily spirit that takes the cask well.
At 46% it is rich, nutty and full. Baked apple, marzipan and a creamy malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. A long, nutty finish carries dried fruit and a soft spice. This is a creamy, nutty Highland single malt.
