Description
This Edradour was bottled by the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, a 10 year old, distilled in 2007, from cask 316, bottled at 46%. Edradour is a creamy, sherried Highland single malt from one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. The distillery sits in a pocket glen at Balnauld, in the hills above Pitlochry in Perthshire.
Drawn off the tiny stills and cooled in worm tubs for an oily make, the worm tubs lending a weighty, oily character. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working slowly into the rich malt. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the oily malt, the body fuller and creamier. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and chocolate deepening over the oily core. It was founded in 1825, growing out of an old farmers' cooperative in the glen above Pitlochry. A small distillery and a hands on approach shape every cask by hand.
At 46% it is smooth and rich. Dried fruit, fig and a creamy vanilla, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A dried fruit and a polished oak give it depth. The close is oily and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a creamy, nutty Highland single malt.
