Description
This Edradour was bottled by the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, a 10 year old, distilled in 2004, from cask 402, bottled at 46%, one of 905 bottles. Edradour is a small batch Highland malt, owned by the independent bottler Signatory Vintage. The distillery sits in a pocket glen at Balnauld, in the hills above Pitlochry in Perthshire.
It was run through the small stills with their boil ball purifiers, for the rich, oily make Edradour is known for. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the rich Edradour make. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, the nutty chocolate deepening. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses. The worm tubs leave an oily weight that carries through the years in cask. A gentle maturation suits the oily make, the nutty richness growing with time.
At 46% it is rich, nutty and full. Dried fruit, nut and a soft chocolate, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Fig, nut and a creamy malt fill the middle. The finish runs long, nutty and warming. This is Edradour's full bodied, sherried Highland style.
