Description
This Edradour was bottled by the Pitlochry bottler Signatory Vintage, a 10 year old, distilled in 1992, from cask 602+603, bottled at 46%, one of 708 bottles. Edradour is a small, traditional Highland single malt, owned by Signatory since 2002. For years its sign read Scotland's smallest distillery; it now calls itself Scotland's little gem.
It was run through the small stills with their boil ball purifiers, for the rich, oily make Edradour is known for. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the gentle American oak letting the oily make lead. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, oily spirit growing creamier. Long ageing turns the rich make towards dried fruit, fig and a soft spice. The cool Highland air of the glen gives a slow, even maturation in the small Edradour warehouses. The distillery sits in a pocket glen at Balnauld, in the hills above Pitlochry in Perthshire.
At 46% it is creamy and full. Chocolate, dried fruit and a waxy oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dried fruit and a polished oak give it depth. Dried fruit, chocolate and a soft oak see out a long finish. This is a creamy, nutty Highland single malt.
