Edetaria makes this single-plot Carinena in Terra Alta, where Joan Angel Lliberia farms 60 hectares organically on limestone and clay soils. Eight months in oak gives a structured red of ripe blackberry and blueberry, black pepper and a savoury, stony depth.
Description
Edetaria was founded in Gandesa in 2003 by Joan Angel Lliberia, who vinifies plot by plot so that each soil type speaks clearly: the white limestone tapas blanc, the sandstone panal and the red clay. La Pedrissa is a single-plot Carinena, a thick-skinned, late ripening variety well suited to the dry, sunny climate of Terra Alta and its poor limestone soils. The high diurnal range, with hot days and cool Mediterranean nights, ripens the fruit fully while holding the natural acidity and firm tannin that define the grape. The wine is farmed organically and aged eight months in oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange softens the tannin and adds a fine spice frame without masking the fruit. The colour is deep and dark. The nose leads with ripe blackberry, blueberry and raspberry, lifted by black pepper, dried herbs and a stony mineral note. The palate is full and structured, with ripe but firm tannin, good freshness and a long, savoury finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanting an hour ahead for a young vintage. It is a natural match for grilled and roasted red meats.
