Edelobstbrennerei Schleihauf Böser Kater RumBazamba Caramel Toffee

This RumBazamba Caramel Toffee comes from the German fruit distillery Schleihauf under its Böser Kater label, and it is a flavoured rum through and through, bottled at 40% and built around the idea of toffee. The nose is sweet and dessert-like, full of chocolate, custard, toffee and vanilla, the kind of aroma one taster likened to a box of Toffifee.

The palate carries dark chocolate, toffee and honeycomb, but interestingly it is less sweet on the tongue than the nose suggests, with the alcohol felt more in the throat than as heat up front. Taken for what it is, a sweet, caramel-led flavoured rum, it is a genuinely cosy pour. Serve it chilled or over ice as a liquid dessert, or lean on it in sweet cocktails. It makes no claim to be a dry traditional rum, and it is all the more enjoyable for that honesty.
