Ebano grows this Ribera del Duero Tempranillo at Gumiel de Mercado, hand-harvesting into small crates. Six months in French oak give a young, juicy red of black cherry, plum and a sweet spice over firm tannin.
Description
Ebano 6 Roble is a single-variety Tempranillo from D.O. Ribera del Duero, made by Ebano Vinedos y Bodegas across vineyards at Gumiel de Mercado and Quintana del Pidio in Castilla y Leon. The fruit comes from 43 hectares of vines averaging 14 to 25 years, split between trellised and free-standing bush vines, on the high Duero plateau where hot days and cold nights give a wide diurnal range that builds colour and ripe tannin while keeping acidity. The harvest is by hand into 17 kilo crates, and the grapes are sorted on a conveyor belt before destemming and crushing. After fermentation the wine spends six months in French oak, a short ageing that keeps the fruit fresh and adds vanilla and sweet spice rather than heavy wood. It pours deep purple, with black cherry, plum and red berries on the nose over liquorice and pepper. The palate is full and juicy, with firm but ripe tannin and a savoury, oak-spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It suits grilled and roast red meats.
