Description
Guigal Condrieu is a pure Viognier from Domaine E. Guigal, the family house founded in 1946 that did much to promote the grape in the northern Rhône. The AOC Condrieu is a small appellation given over entirely to varietal Viognier, and Guigal's vines here average 30 years, planted on terraces of sand and granite at low yields of around 39 hectolitres per hectare. The steep, south facing granite slopes hold heat and drive full ripeness, while the poor sandy soils and modest crop concentrate the fruit, giving Condrieu its trademark weight and perfume. The warm site lets Viognier reach its ripe apricot and blossom character while staying dry. In the cellar the wine is vinified to keep that aromatic intensity and rounded texture. The colour is a bright straw gold. The nose is heady, led by apricot, white peach and honeysuckle, and the palate is broad, dry and viscous with a warm, faintly nutty depth and a long finish. Serve it around 11 to 12 degrees, in a wide glass.

Additional information
The ripe apricot fruit and rounded texture suit roast chicken with sweet vegetables, grilled meaty fish such as monkfish, and mild pork dishes. It also works with lightly spiced Asian food where the fruit balances the heat.
