A young, sweetened amber rum from Madagascar’s Dzama on Nosy Be, soft and mild with caramel, vanilla, chocolate and coffee, an easy, sugary mainstream sipper at 52% rather than a dry or characterful one.
Description
Dzama Vidzar Cuvee Prestige Ambre Nosy Be comes from Dzama, the best known rum house on the island of Nosy Be off Madagascar. It is a molasses rum aged around eighteen months in ex bourbon casks and bottled at 52%, presented as a prestige cuvee though it remains young and gently styled.
The nose is mild and sweet, with caramelised sugar and vanilla, while the palate brings chocolate and coffee over a round, sweet body before a short, warm finish. The rum is sweetened, and the result tastes of mainstream caramel rather than the dry oak or funk that bolder drinkers chase. Despite the 52% strength it stays soft and approachable, leaning on its dessert notes. Taken for what it is, it is an easy, sweet sipper with a pleasant chocolate and coffee character and a light bitterness on the close.
