Description
Dureuil-Janthial is a Burgundy estate with roots reaching back to the 14th century. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial took over in 1994 and works across several appellations, including Rully in the Côte Chalonnaise, where this Pinot Noir is grown. Rully sits on limestone and clay-limestone soils, the classic base for Burgundian Pinot Noir, which lend the wine acidity, tension and a mineral thread. The region's continental climate, with cool nights and a marked day-to-night temperature swing, holds the fruit fresh and preserves the grape's delicate perfume. The wine ages twelve months in French oak, where slow oxygen exchange softens the tannins and adds a light spice without covering the fruit. The colour is medium ruby. The nose shows red cherry and wild strawberry, rose petal and a savoury, earthy undertone with a touch of clove from the barrel. The palate is medium bodied and elegant, with bright acidity, fine tannins and a fresh, savoury finish. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, decanted briefly, in a wide bowled Burgundy glass. It suits duck, roast chicken and mushroom dishes.
