A single cask Long Pond from 2000, sixteen years old at cask strength 54.1%, where ripe tropical fruit and a nutty, chocolate richness meet citrus and cereal, the ester funk softened by age into something round and accessible.
Description
Bottled by Duncan Taylor, the Scottish whisky house known for natural single cask selections, this is a 2000 vintage Long Pond aged sixteen years and drawn from one ex-bourbon barrel. Long Pond is a historic Trelawny Wedderburn distillery whose pot still rums run fruit forward and funky, and at this age the wilder edges have settled into a deeper, more composed expression of the marque.
Distilled on pot still from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon, it shows chocolate, tropical fruit and a nutty aroma, then a palate of warm wood, citrus, nuts and a cereal note, closing on milk chocolate, fruit and honey. At 54.1% the strength is present but well integrated, the cask lending depth without smothering the distillate. Unsweetened and bottled from a single barrel, it is a rounded, mature Jamaican that trades raw solvent funk for layered fruit and sweet oak.
