This Dumbarton was bottled by The Caskhound, a 25 year old, at 50.9%. Coconut, vanilla and a polished oak fill the glass. About a hundred geese, the Scotch Watch, guarded its warehouses from 1959. One of Scotland’s lost grain distilleries, silent since 2002. This is the deep, sweet grain of vanished Dumbarton.

Description
A 25 year old Dumbarton from the bottler The Caskhound, distilled in 2000, from cask 210782, bottled at 50.9%, one of 248 bottles. Dumbarton is a closed grain distillery, its single grain now a finite, dwindling stock. Its grain was the backbone of the Ballantine's blend for decades.
The spirit was made in the column stills before the distillery closed, for a delicate spirit that leans on the cask with age. A bourbon hogshead held it, the long maturation drawing out a buttery coconut. Through the evaporative decades ellagitannins lend a polished grip while oak lactones deepen the coconut, mango and butterscotch building. Three decades and more turn a light spirit into something rich and tropical. With the distillery demolished, every bottle draws on a finite, dwindling stock. When it opened it was the largest continuous grain distillery in Scotland, and the first to use stainless steel columns. With Dumbarton gone, every bottle draws on a finite, dwindling stock.
At cask strength 50.9% it is full bodied. Coconut from the oak lactones and vanilla from vanillin run deep, over butterscotch and a soft oil. The texture is oily and buttery, the sweetness coating. It closes long, sweet and oily. This is the dessert sweet grain of silent Dumbarton.
