A nine year old 2011 Peruvian ron from Millonario, bottled by Dugas at forty eight percent, balanced and rounded with caramel, vanilla, dried fruit and wood and a gently sweet, spicy finish, a richer take on the smooth South American style.
Description
This Millonario number 3 comes from Hacienda Agricola de Chiclayo in Peru and reaches the shelf through the French house Dugas under its La Maison du Rhum label, a 2011 vintage carrying nine years of age. Millonario is known for soft, rounded Peruvian rum, and this independent bottling at forty eight percent gives that house style a little more body and grip than the standard releases.
Column-distilled from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon wood, with a sherried cask influence showing through, it is well balanced with caramel, vanilla, dried fruit and wood across nose and palate, finishing on burnt sugar, fruit and gentle spice. The higher strength firms up the usual Peruvian softness while keeping the easy, slightly sweet character intact. It makes a harmonious, satisfying sipper, richer and more structured than entry-level South American rum without losing the smoothness that defines the style.
