A 2008 Peruvian Millonario bottled by French house Dugas at 45%, sherried and fruit sweet with prunes, caramel and pastry on the nose, then cinnamon, vanilla and a coffee, earthy finish.
Description
Dugas La Maison du Rhum Millonario No. 2 2008 pairs the French selector Dugas with spirit from the Hacienda Agricola de Chiclayo in Peru, the source behind the dessert leaning Millonario name. This is molasses rum distilled on a column still, drawn from a 2008 vintage and bottled at a fuller 45%.
The profile leans rich and almost sherried. The nose opens on prunes, caramel and pastry over ripe fruit, the palate turns to cinnamon, caramel and vanilla with a clear sweetness, and the finish settles into coffee, cinnamon and an earthy note. Added sugar is not disclosed and the style is soft and fruit driven rather than dry, with the higher strength giving it a little more backbone than a standard 40% pour. A warm, spice and dried fruit Peruvian that drinks like a gentle after dinner sipper.
