Description
The bottler A.D. Rattray bottled this Dufftown, a 33 year old, distilled in 1982, from cask 18583, bottled at 53.6%, one of 198 bottles. Dufftown is a Speyside single malt, sold as The Singleton of Dufftown since 2006. Eight warehouses on site hold close to 100,000 casks of maturing malt.
It was mashed in the full lauter tun and fermented long for a clean, grassy make, building the smooth Dufftown style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the malt. At a great, fragile age oxidation rules, sotolon lending maple and dried fig as beeswax and a nutty honey linger. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the smooth Speyside spirit. The Singleton of Dufftown is matured in a mix of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry oak. It is one of Diageo's largest malt distilleries, making around 5.8 million litres a year. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards honey, dried fruit and a soft spice.
At a natural 53.6% it is full and nutty. A smooth, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is nutty and malty, the smooth spirit shining through. Apple, nut and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a smooth, nutty Speyside single malt.
