Description
The Italian bottler Moon-Import bottled this Dufftown, a 21 year old, bottled at 58%, one of 234 bottles. Dufftown is a Speyside single malt distilled in the town of Dufftown, the heart of Scotland's malt whisky country. Its single malt has been sold as The Singleton of Dufftown since 2006, mainly in the UK and Europe.
It was mashed in the full lauter tun and fermented long for a clean, grassy make, building the smooth Dufftown style. Maturation came in an Oloroso cask, layered over the smooth Dufftown make. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, apple and pear turning honeyed over the malty body. The Singleton style leans on a mix of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry oak. It is one of Diageo's largest malt distilleries, making around 5.8 million litres a year. It became the heart of the Bell's blend after Arthur Bell and Sons bought it in 1933.
At cask strength 58% it is full bodied. Nutty malt, green apple and a gentle spice, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The texture is smooth and creamy, the fruit lifted by vanilla. It finishes smooth, nutty and approachable. This is a smooth, nutty Speyside single malt.
