Description
The bottler Dun Eideann bottled this Dufftown, a 21 year old, distilled in 1979, bottled at 43%, one of 2600 bottles. Dufftown is a Speyside single malt, founded as the Dufftown-Glenlivet distillery in 1895. It runs a full lauter mash tun, twelve washbacks and six stills, and works around the clock.
It was worked through the stills with a creamed yeast for a malty, fruity make, giving the smooth, approachable Speyside spirit. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. Into oxidative maturity, slow air ingress builds fruity ethyl esters (apple and pear) and a nutty depth. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. The Singleton of Dufftown is matured in a mix of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry oak. The town of Dufftown holds the highest concentration of distilleries in Scotland. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the smooth Speyside spirit.
Bottled at 43%, it is rounded. A smooth, nutty Speyside fruit, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is smooth, the fruit carried on a malty body. Apple, nut and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a smooth, nutty Speyside single malt.
