Description
A 10 year old Dufftown from the bottler Mossburn, distilled in 2008, from cask Batch 06.0308.8, bottled at 46%. Dufftown is a Speyside single malt, sold as The Singleton of Dufftown since 2006. Its spirit stills are larger than its wash stills, unusual among Scottish distilleries.
The spirit was mashed in the full lauter tun and fermented long for a clean, grassy make, the long ferment building a grassy, fruity character. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the smooth spirit. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the nutty, malty spirit growing rounder. Water from Jock's Well and a long ferment give the clean Dufftown make. It was founded in 1895 within a former meal mill by Peter Mackenzie and his partners. Refill oak lets the nutty, malty Dufftown character lead the way. Maturation in the eight Dufftown warehouses is slow and steady.
Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. Honey, nut and a touch of spice, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and a nutty malt sit behind the cask. The finish is rounded, malty and gently spiced. This is a smooth, malty Speyside malt from the Conval Hills.
