Description
Duas Quintas Blanco is a white from the Douro made by Casa Ramos Pinto, a blend of Viosinho, Rabigato and Arinto. The fruit comes from the higher, cooler part of the region: the Quinta Ervamoira plots at around 150 metres and the Quinta dos Bons Ares vineyards at 600 metres, where altitude offsets the Douro's heat and preserves the acidity that white grapes need here. The schist soils drain sharply and force the vines to root deep, lending the wine a stony, mineral base. Arinto brings firm citrus acidity, Rabigato adds freshness and Viosinho a little weight and aroma. The grapes are hand picked into small boxes, kept separate by variety and vineyard, then cold macerated before a direct pressing to draw aroma while protecting the fruit. That gentle, oak free handling keeps the wine fresh and primary. It pours a bright golden yellow with green tones. The nose is fresh and citrus led, with lemon and grapefruit over green apple, white peach and white flowers. The palate is crisp and dry, with a saline, stony finish that reflects the schist and the altitude. Serve it well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
