A four-year cask-strength Filipino single cask from Scotch bottler Dràm Mòr, dark chocolate and cocoa over wood and dried fruit, toasted and peppery on the palate, sweet and bold at 59%.
Description
Dràm Mòr is a Scottish independent bottler applying a whisky-house approach to rum, and this single cask is a young Filipino aged four years in ex-bourbon and bottled at cask strength, 59%. Despite the modest age, the high proof and full-proof presentation pack plenty of flavour into the glass, with a noticeably sweet, dessert-leaning character typical of Philippine rum.
The nose is rich with dark chocolate, cocoa, wood and dried fruit. The palate turns toasted and peppery, dark chocolate over wood with a clear sweetness reminiscent of chocolate-coated cherries, the strength giving it grip. The finish is woody and spiced, allspice and dried fruit over a peppery close. This is a bold, sweet, single-cask take on Filipino rum, the cask strength lending body the young age might otherwise lack. One for drinkers who enjoy a powerful, chocolatey pour and do not mind an upfront sweetness alongside the proof.
