Dr. Loosen Dr. L. Bros Riesling Fruity 2024

Dr. Loosen is one of the best known Riesling producers in the Mosel, run by the Loosen family, who have made wine here for more than 200 years, and it works old, ungrafted vineyards over 60 years old on the region's characteristic slate. This is a fruity, off dry Riesling in the classic Mosel mould. The steep slate slopes of the Mosel absorb and hold heat in a cool, marginal climate and give the wines their pronounced minerality and smoky, stony edge, while the northerly latitude keeps acidity high and sugars low, so the wine sits at just 8.5 percent. A touch of residual sugar is retained to balance that bracing acidity, giving a gently sweet, low alcohol style rather than a dry one. The colour is pale lemon. The nose is delicate and saline, with white blossom, ripe peach and lemon lifted by a subtle mineral smokiness from the slate. The palate is light and fruity, the soft sweetness held in check by fresh acidity and a stony, mineral finish. Serve well chilled at 7 to 9 degrees. The off dry balance and low alcohol make it a fine match for spice and aromatic dishes.
