Don Q Double Cask Finish – Sherry Cask

Don Q Double Cask Sherry is a column-distilled molasses rum from Destileria Serralles in Puerto Rico, aged four and a half years and given a sherry-cask finish before bottling at 41%. It sits in the soft, vanilla-led Spanish style, but the sherry finish adds a layer of fruit and spice that lifts it above a plain entry-level pour.

The nose shows vanilla, dried fruit, caramel and a fruity edge, while the palate brings sherry, vanilla, dried fruit and caramel. The finish is caramelised, with sherry, spice and raisin. The sherry influence reads as gentle rather than heavy, layering dried-fruit warmth over a rounded, lightly sweet base without tipping into cloying territory. The result is easy-drinking and nicely balanced, good value for a casual sipper or a step up in a cocktail.
