Description
Don Pedro de Soutomaior is made by Adegas Galegas in D.O. Rías Baixas, in the O Condado and O Rosal subzones south of Pontevedra in Galicia. This is Spain's coolest, wettest, most Atlantic wine region, and Albariño is its signature grape. The cool maritime climate and frequent rain mean vines are trained high on pergolas to promote airflow and ripen the thick skinned fruit while holding its natural acidity. That combination of ripeness and freshness defines the wine. Granite and sandy soils near the coast lend a saline, mineral edge. This bottling is made in a young, fresh style with no oak, so fermentation in stainless steel protects the aromatic stone fruit and citrus fruit and keeps the palate crisp and direct. It is pale straw with a green tint. The nose is aromatic, with white peach, apricot and lemon over white flowers. The palate is dry and juicy, with green apple acidity and a saline finish that reflects the coast. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a standard white glass.
