Description
The Quincentennial Edition is a 2025 Don Papa release from the Bleeding Heart Rum Company in the Philippines, and it deliberately steps away from the sweet, vanilla-soaked profile the brand is known for. Bottled at 50% and finished in port casks, it trades the usual candied softness for darker, drier territory.
The port influence shows as cherry, dark chocolate and brown spice on the nose, with a palate of dark dried fruit, leather and licorice and a finish of roasted wood, black tea and barrel. It reads dry and woody rather than sugary, with the higher strength giving it real grip and intensity. Anyone expecting the familiar sweet Don Papa will find something quite different here, closer to a port or sherry-finished rum in feel, a more serious pour for drinkers ready to revise their expectations of the label.
